“It’s somewhat embarrassing, but when the raptors bark at each other to communicate, it’s a tortoise having sex. It’s a mating tortoise! I recorded that at Marine World… the people there said, ‘Would you like to record these two tortoises that are mating?’ It sounded like a joke, because tortoises mating can take a long time. You’ve got to have plenty of time to sit around and watch and record them.”
Sound designer Gary Rydstrom on the rather unusual audio in Jurassic Park.
“My early exposure to all the leviathans of the Saturday matinee creature features inspired me, when I grew up, to make Jurassic Park. And the artist magician who breathed life into clay figures and wire armatures and made us, as kids, happily fear for our lives, was the dean of special effects, Ray Harryhausen. All those so called “B movies” were the A movies of my childhood. He inspired generations.”
Spielberg pays tribute to Ray Harryhausen, who died earlier this week.
Well, not officially I guess since official weekend numbers are released Monday, but JP’s lifetime gross pushed past the mark yesterday. It’s re-issue looks like it’ll go north of The Phantom Menace’s one from last year, but won’t catch Titanic. - or the all time 3D re-issue champion The Lion King.
