”Steve wasn’t always going for 100 percent, sometimes he was going for 50 percent. But my theory is that a director as talented as Steve going at 50 percent is better than most people giving their all. when he goes at 100 percent it can get out of hand - which I think is true of a lot of directors. It’s not how good a film you can make. It’s how good a film you can make under the circumstances.”

George Lucas talks to Janet Maslin of the New York Times about Raiders of the Lost Ark and Spielberg’s style not getting out of hand.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (and Empire Strikes Back) writer Lawrence Kasdan talks to the Charleston Post and Courier (Nov 1st, 1981) about his work.
Kasdan: “One of the reasons I wrote [Body Heat] is that I miss movies you can listen to and enjoy. I’m very proud of my work on Raiders of the Lost Ark, but you could go to that picture, turn off the sound, and have a perfectly good time. You turn off the sound in Body Heat and you don’t have a movie. It’s gone.”
