Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was one of the most highly anticipated films of the last decade and Spielberg had a little fun with that expectation in the opening shot.
As with the previous films, KOTCS begins with the sight of the famous Paramount mountain fading into another landmass. Instead of a mountain though, Spielberg cuts to a hill of dirt created by a burrowing prarie dog.
It’s just a film, Spielberg is saying to fans with this shot. Don’t make a mountain out of a mole (or prarie dog-) hill.
